Here it is assembled (that is an angel--not an elf next to Santa)...
A hippo ornament (Nik's favorite animal).
Santa also left a note stating that he is looking forward to seeing Nik on Saturday when we are going to Breakfast with Santa (and Dora) at the zoo.

Very cute, I love the pj pant legs one higher then the other and then the 1/2 yawn in the other photo.
You were raised Catholic so you are entitled to have your son celebrate something you had as a child.
